Toy storage solutions - pick of the best

As much as I love Christmas, part of me always has a bit of a panic about where we are going to fit all the new toys the children get.

We are extremely fortunate in that we have quite a large playroom, which we gained when we had our house extended last year. However, with three young children it doesn't take long to fill it and at the moment it is absolutely cram packed with toys and plastic tat!

I've started to have a bit of a clear out (3 black bin bags filled already and I've only tackled the back), but it is clear that we really need to get clever with our storage, so I've been having a hunt around and pinning lots of pins (I love Pintrest!) in a bid to put together a list of what I need to buy in the new year to ensure our playroom is an organised as possible (I might be being a little optimistic here!). I thought I'd share some of my top finds.

1. Laura Ashley Suitcases - £15 (currently reduced)
These are so pretty and I know Heidi would love storing her bits and pieces in them. They'd look fab in a pretty pink bedroom.

2. Wilko Plastic Storage Box - 4 for £10
These small plastic boxes are great for storing bits and pieces such as cars, trains, hair accessories and all sorts of little knick knacks that if you don't allocate a place for end up scattered around the house. I like the colourful lids on these and the fact that you can stack them on top of each other to save even more space!

3. Ikea Stuva Storage Bench - £49
You can't really beat Ikea for durable storage furniture and reasonable prices. If you check out my Pinterest board, you'll see that this range features quite heavily and I'm definitely going to invest in a few pieces in the new year. I like how everything can be hidden away. These are quite wide too, so we'll be able to get lots in there.

4. Wilko 6 Bin Storage Unit - £39
I think that at £39 this is a really bargain. The six boxes will allow you to fit lots in. I can just imagine it filled with cars and trains! This would look lovely in a little boys room.

5. Ikea Stuva Storage Combination - £155
At £155 this is the most expensive item on the list. However, imagine how many toys you could store away in this! The drawers would mean that things wouldn't get too cluttered. I love how you can change the colour of the doors. We've got some lovely wooden toys that would look great displayed on the open shelves.

6. HomeBaseRound Natural and Blue Basket - £6.13 (currently reduced)
This is such a good price that I couldn't not include it. It's stylish whilst also being functional and will make quick work of tidying up.

7. Wayfair Short Cub Storage Unit - £35.99
We've already got one of these in our playroom and they're so versatile and hold HUGE amounts. This one is a great price too.

8. Wilko Pink Storage Bag - £8
At £8 this is a bargain and would hold lots of toys. I like these for just being able to throw stuff in to allow you to tidy up quickly. Again this would also look good in a bedroom.

With all these options there's no excuse not to be organised, although I'm sure my children will have other ideas!

What's your top pick for storing toys?

  3. Some great ideas, we are always on the lookout for nice toy storage, in the kids rooms they have Ikea Trofast units, and downstairs we have an Expedit unit and the bottom 4 compartments have baskets for toys... its the big bulky toys that drive me mad. #HomeEtc x

  4. Happy new year Jemma! I cannot BELIEVE I totally forgot to do all my comments for the last #HomeEtc. So much was going on just before Christmas but that's no excuse!! Am so naughty!! AND sorry!!!

I seem to spend my life picking up toys!! We have some lovely storage bins in the twins' room but it doesn't take too long for them to empty all the toys onto the floor!! The storage isn't really the issue in our house — it's the fact that my two don't yet understand that the toys need to go IN the storage!! ;)

Looking forward to starting another year of #HomeEtc tomorrow — I hope that you'll come and join us xxx
